Venetian Polished Plaster is lime-based, which makes it breathable and naturally resistant to mould, unlike ordinary painted gypsum. That same lime chemistry suits period and traditional wall construction as well as modern interiors, and it is part of why a properly applied finish lasts so much longer than paint.

The character comes from the final stages. Once the thin lime layers are built up, the surface is burnished by hand to draw out the sheen and the marble-like movement in the colour. It is a slow, deliberate step, and it is the difference between a flat coat and a genuine polished plaster finish.
